Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is widely accepted as the standard of care for the treatment of autism. ABA is evidence-based and is centered on the scientifically proven principals of human behavior.
We identify the function of a child's challenging behavior and compassionately teach replacement behaviors using positive reinforcement.
ABA learning and intervention with Developmental Wellness is highly individualized, intensive, and fun! Their day is designed to be engaging and playful as they work toward their developmental goals. After a warm greeting we connect with your child through an introductory activity. The children smoothly transition between their focused individual work, circle time, crafts, snacks and lunch, small group playdates, and a variety of other play and learning activities throughout their day. Your child will be matched with other children of varying skill levels to create countless opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and play.
The science of ABA is embedded into their play and learning, using natural environment teaching, pivotal response training, and discrete trial teaching. Every moment of the day is productive and driven by their individual learning goals in the areas of communication, social skills, independence, play-skills and ready-to-learn skills.
The simple answer is that research demonstrates 40 hours of ABA is the most effective in reducing deficits associated with autism.
ABA addresses skill deficits in all developmental areas and is both a learning model and intervention methodology. Learning new skills across expressive and receptive communication, gross motor movements and fine motor dexterity, imitation, play and social interactions, daily living skills, etc. takes time. Addressing the deficits associated with autism requires systematic consistency and an environment designed to maximize their success. Our learning centers have the flexibility to be free of overwhelming sensory input and expectations so each child can learn and grow at the pace that is right for them.
Children come to our centers for full day or half day programs depending on their individual needs and goals. We also have an afternoon program designed for higher functioning children that need support with social and daily living skills.
Yes. We accept BCBS, UHI, Medicaid (Wellpoint/Amerigroup, Iowa Total Care, and Molina).
Our goal is to help children with autism be successful in school and in their lives. Some children are ready to go to school with their general education peers. Some are not quite there yet or need more time before they are ready for traditional school.
We believe parents know where their child will be the most successful. In the state of Iowa, parents can dual-enroll their children and split their time between school and other programs, including ABA. Parents can also choose to fully enroll their child in an ABA program (at any age) until they have the skills to be successful in school.
We do not have a specific age range or cap. Children are usually 2 years old at minimum and most children are preschool or kindergarten age. We do accept older children in both our full day and half day programs as well. We are concerned with a child’s developmental age and skills rather than their chronological age.
Parents, families, and caregivers are encouraged to be a part of our sessions. You are the most important piece of your child’s development and our partner in helping your child succeed. Family support sessions occur regularly to teach parents how to apply ABA principals when we aren’t there directly teaching your child.
An initial evaluation with one of our Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) is completed prior to starting therapy. This includes an in-depth parent interview and a play-based assessment with the child. Once completed, the BCBA develops an individualized treatment plan outlining goals for both the child and the parents.
